These Petite Poppet Portraits are inspired by English Wooden dolls of the 18th century. I have painted them on aged watercolor paper in keeping with the antique, naive feel of the artwork. I wanted to create the look of a well-loved painting passed down in the family that was perhaps done by a mother for her daughter to hang beside her cherished dolls.
All of these poppets have a name of one of my female ancestors.
